In 1993 the CCPP was designated by the Executive Committee of the tribal government to act as the repository for the collection, preservation, and promotion of the tribe's history and culture. As part of the Executive Committee's directive the CCPP Archives seeks to collect official records, private manuscripts, family photographs, and other records relating to the Catawba Nation, its people and its lands. As a part of the Catawba Cultural Preservation Project the Archives promotes the research and study of Catawba history.
The Archives houses over 100 cubic feet of historical records covering the period from the early 1800 to the present, and is divided into three collections. As the designated repository for the Catawba Indian Nation records the CCPP performs a records management function for the Tribal offices as well as housing records of historical significance for the tribe. The second part of the collection is the Manuscript Collection which consists of letters, journals, oral histories, land lease agreements, and family photographs relating genealogical information and social history of the Catawba Indians. The third part of the Archival program is the Artifact Collection. The archives preserves examples of the Catawba's ancient pottery tradition, as well as projectile points, gaming stones, and grinding stones. Collections include information on the leasing of Catawba lands, reservation life, relationship to state and federal government, cultural traditions, involvement in wars, the land settlement of 1993, genealogy, the Catawba language, and the pottery tradition.
