Born 1918, Catawba Indian Reservation, York County, South Carolina
When Nola Campbell teaches pottery, she likes to establish with her students the same kind of sustained, one-on-one relationship that she had with her mentor, Georgia Harris. Campbell believes that the subtleties of mixing clay and executing different forms can take years to master. Like Harris, Campbell is known for her technical prowess. Her command of the clay allows her to make any form her imagination can conjure up.
"Whatever comes in my mind, that's what I'll make. I haven't ever sat down and thought that I'll make something and not made it."
